Music wise, I have no real issues with them going in a more melodic direction but the execution is just so painfully average and forgettable. If this was a new band, you’d barely even describe it as competent. There are so few actual ideas on this thing, just a creative void. The melodies aren’t engaging or strong enough to carry tracks that are nearly 12 minutes long, and some of the additions like gang vocals and ‘solos’ are just plain corny. That’s another thing, the vocals are so over the top and obnoxious on virtually every track. They can write all the self indulgent fables they want, but ultimately the music to back it up is completely toothless here.

Another thing I just realised; there is absolutely no atmosphere on this album. When you contrast the use of choirs for the lengthy introduction to Kenose I with hackneyed effort at the end of the opening track here, it’s like listening to the bargain bin version.

I was so ready to transcend such mundane, terrestrial concerns but alas the album was pretty not great

I thought I was a DsO fan but I'm glad to know my shriveled raisin brain has not scoured enough books on esoteric fascism and metaphysical Satanism to even come close to enjoying DsO

Review itself is actually well written but like why all these pseudo intellectual mental gymnastics man

There’s an air of pretentiousness and superiority emanating from every crevice, but to say this isn’t a competent review would'

That's why it's so suiting tbh

Sounds like DSO and I like DSO. Not sure why everyone dislikes it.

these guys being trash humans and super pretentious aside (a lot to overlook i know) i dug the back end of this album. they were doing something different and fresh with their sound and the melodic sections and gang vox were pretty dec

EDIT - OK the chorus of the closer is cheesy AF but title track and sie sind geritecht are cool
