so i gave this three spins and
#1: yh disappointingly quite good
#2: highlight tracks actually hit p hard
#3: uh no, we're back to okay. nothing glaringly weak, but overall less on board with them pj harvey/alannis m-nodding chord progressions and cute dated beats. her voice is nice but overall this feels more like a decent stylistic reheat (of an era with q predictable appeal itt?)than a New Obsession. hardcapped 3.5

Although the sophomore album from the London-based artist is a lot more artistically sound and consistent across the board, many of the artistic direction and flair that made her debut album so potent is missing on ?PAINLESS?. There are some great indie artsy pop songs on here but there are also some derivative, if not Radiohead worship, also on the album.
and now i either want to 5 this or delete it from the database

i want to be a fan and she definitely has talent and ability, but this all feels so generic-2020s-indie mish mash to me. wish she leaned more into the r&b vibes of early singles and less into this radiohead pastiche she's doing at times
