Habitat is my easy #1 here, honestly don't even know how to rank after that. Iodine, Swimming, Cyclone tied for second? Orange is great but I overplayed it before the album dropped

Not in the slightest lol

They're probably saying that because it was mixed by Chris Walla. But yeah, I didn't think Death Cab when I heard this either.
|
| |
I am a big Death Cab fan but they are way way more streamlined and poppy than this, even their older stuff
|
| |
As someone who loves them a lot, yr not missing much
|
| |
Meaning they're a foundational band for me but objectively very generic

also I wish 11th hour was a more powerful closer. it's too short and ends too abruptly

Dunno about here, but I've definitely seen that on RYM and Reddit. Doesn't remind me much of Death Cab, but I can kind of hear what they mean, esp. on the slower longer songs like Iodine. A little reminiscent of Plans era.

I will accept no 11th Hour slander, very powerful song

nah that's a based take by butt.

I love it so much, the lyrics are phenomenal and the dynamic percussion is dope as hell

11th Hour is top five for sure. Ties up all the album's themes (esp. the climate change narrative) really well. Last few lines are craaazy and the abruptness makes a lot of sense. Also think it makes listening to the album on repeat (!) really satisfying.

good review. still need to listen to this, i've kinda been avoiding it since marigold was just fine.

Yeah the lyrics and percussion are great but it's a slow song that barely crosses the 2-minute mark, so, kinda hard to not feel it's a bit underbaked.
"the abruptness makes a lot of sense"
how? climate change is not abrupt in any sense of the word unless there's a different meaning there I'm missing. Not like it's a comet hitting the planet lol
