Killer - I'd check out 'Gikyokuonsou' which came out in 2011. Its *very* proggy but it has a great sense of drama and energy to it.

I remember how good I felt beating that fifth pantheon for the first time. And beating nightmare king grimm 10 consecutive times on radiant difficulty

I "finished" the game, but never finished the postgame.
I do remember the massive surge of accomplishment after beating the final Hornet fight. Oh and Markoth. That was even harder than Hollow Knight himself.
