A few minutes into the second track and this is not at all what I was expecting based on those genre tags.

^ Yeah, definitely a lot more slowcore than the genre tags let on

I should have read the review (will do that now)!
I hate to say it but this isn't doing much for me so far yeah nevermind I already take it back

At this point you couple probably throw indie rock in the genre tags to cover slowcore.
Also Sowing now you gotta go reverse chronological to get to Watching From a Distance.

Thanks guys!
@Boney, yeah, I voted for "indie rock" for 40 Watt Sun earlier today, I think that's the closest to slowcore in the Sputnik genre system.

Yeah I’ve always felt restricting slowcore to indie rock is a bit limiting as there’s plenty of slowcore that’s mostly acoustic and not really “rock” per se, but it’s the best equivalent we have here for sure.

Came here to say ‘slowcore?!’ and I see pretty much every comment is along those lines. I’ll have to dive back in without false preconceptions to see if it clicks because honestly I was bored / lusting after Low the first time around.

Gonna have to give this more time. First listen had me pretty much constantly waffling between utter boredom and feeling like I was on the verge of an emotional connection
Not sure what that combination means but basically it was like American Football's LP3

It’s possible this needs a bit more context to hit in the right way - listening now and loving so far, but I might not be as convinced by the more standard soft slowcore style if I didn’t know where this was coming from.

I don’t know what it is about this album, but there’s a strangely nostalgic feeling I get from it. It definitely sounds out of place in 2022, but that’s kinda the charm of it. It really does recall a lot of that sentimental 90s indie rock magic, but then it has that sprawling post-rock touch to it… honestly, I just love the whole vibe of the album

Yeah, it sounds like 90s RHP and early 2000s Sun Kil Moon- big nostalgia for me

I don’t think this is slowcore so much as it is post rock. Lovely album for sure.

And maybe I’m an island, but make me like the sea
To pour across your shores and borders
Before it covers me
I will cover up the scars for you
And the dead parts of the past for you…
Well shit
And yeah I have absolutely nothing wrong with this being a shameless rip of early Kozelek.

Yeah, Kozelek's projects are definitely the biggest influence I find, but this has a "spacier" feel, for lack of a better term, to my ears. It's beautiful

Certified Doofcore then… Genre tag when?
