fantastic write-up!
i think this album (and the generous loosies that have preceded it) charts a logical progression if you consider Untrue and Kindred (his most well-parsed) outliers, or perhaps interpret them as one path to follow after the s/t - the other path being the rest of his output. i'm one of the people who favours his debut (there are dozens of us!!! dozens!!!) and texturally this doesn't strike me as massively dissimilar. h m m

something v. oneiric about this. vocal samples seem like they come from another dimension, brief moments of lucidity and awareness interrupted an opiated fug. eerie

here's an interesting tidbit - i immediately noted that the vinyl of Untrue excises In McDonalds (BOO), Ghost Hardware, (Boo), and "Dog Shelter", i.e. the 3 most ambient / atmospheric tracks. Untrue and Kindred foregrounded the maximalism extant on the s/t, but by God does he deserve his minimalism

(actually it might only be since mid-morning, but still that's some hefty praise right there).

I haven't been blown away by a burial release since rival dealer. That ep had so much creativity and beautiful melodies. I just feel like his recent EPs have been dominated by a bit too much meandering ambience and abundance of negative space. If that follows in the same vein, chances are I won't like it much, but I'll give it a try regardless

anyone else finds it kinda funny that ANTIDAWN EP is released a day apart from The Weeknd's Dawn FM? They're juxtaposed on the new releases page right now lel

Yeah that’s actually rather amusing given the stark contrasts in maximalism?!… (or not), I’d never actually seek to compare them in any way, for the record…
but now I definitely want to
