Re: my comment about dip in quality - i don’t dislike Song of Salvation

The first and last track on that album keep up with some of the best material on here, and on some days, for me, surpass the highlights on this album

I just feel like the middle doesn’t quite stick the landing. I love that they leaned even more into the dreamy, jazzy, gothic influence, but it feels a bit meandering during the middle section of the album, dare I say even a bit indulgent, which feels weird to say because that’s what makes this style so cool.

But on Tide Turns Eternal, the balance is just right. And there’s no lull. It engages me all the way through.

Starpath was fine. Just them trying out more jazz in the formula. Beautiful stuff but not much to sink my teeth into

Tide turns eternal was lightning in a bottle, not unique simply by design but unique because of the space from which the music came - Derrick couldn’t see his wife during the pandemic and recorded the album with Justin from a distance, and you can *hear* that in the record. Song of Salvation doesn’t quite have the same limitations, and unfortunately suffers because of that. Doing more with easier access and more tools can be a great way to push a sound forward, but I think it ended up hampering the ability of the music to pierce the veil with the same consistency as Tide Turns Eternal. Just my two cents

I probably have both slightly underrated. Song would be just shy of 4.0 (currently rated 3.5) and this would be just shy of 5.0

Agreed with that bro. This is the perfect balance between the 2 sounds. This whole thing is just masterful. Can't wait to see what they do next.
