I know right! I was looking at some gameplay footage recently and it genuinely looks nicer than Final Fantasy XIV (2 generations on, wtf!?). The character models are gorgeous!

Yeah, this game was absurdly ahead of its time in the presentation department. The visuals and music were what made me fall in love with it back in the day, even with the lackluster progression and characters weighing it down

The disrespect this game gets is appalling

Having played it again recently, I'd give it around a 7.5-8/10. Not nearly as terrible as people make it out to be, but also not as amazing at it was when I was younger

Totally fair, was the first FF game I have played so I have certain connection to it, love the complex story and the characters. I'm not asking for people to say it's the best FF game ever made or anything like that, I just wish it was treated with more respect.

I have played some of FF7 remake but not enough to have set opinion on it, played FFX and that's good too. I guess I'm being hypocritical because I thought FF15 was offensively bad... I very much disliked everything about that game..

Funny enough, it was my first mainline FF game as well (although Crisis Core was my first FF game overall). And that's what created the nostalgic love I have for it today, even in spite of the flaws

Either way, the soundtrack is always going to be incredible to me; in fact, Hamauzu's score is the thing that made me want to pursue composing in the first place... even more than Uematsu's work. The way Hamauzu's music integrates into the world of Cocoon is some god-tier stuff, and was incredibly influential to the way I perceive audio-visual storytelling and worldbuilding

So I just beat ff16 and while I really REALLY liked it, I am saddened by how people are saying it's the best of game by far in 2 decades. Tbh theres a lot of things I like more about XIII than XVI, I'm trying to be as objective as possible but it's hard not have a little bias, anyways, the gameplay in XVI is all flash and no strategy, kind of like kingdom hearts games, it's really not a hard game.

XIII is HARD, much harder than XVI, so much more strategy involved, so much more to be a aware of, you cant just spam commando throughout every fight you actually have to use some methodology, now to be fair I've played a bit of X and it's very much like that too, but yeah while XVI was fantastic game, its gameplay is comically easy. I think the soundtrack in XIII is just god tier, it's absolutely marvelous, I also just prefer the fundamental invornment aesthetic to XVI as a whole.

Though what XVI prevails over XIII is very much its characters, though I prefer the character designs of XIII, the characters in XVI are better written, I love the story in XIII but maybe it's a little too complex for it's own good, and it's really not explained that well at all, XVI story is much more straight forward and easy to follow.

So overall I slightly prefer XIII, but yeah, I'm really biased, I love both games seriously some of the best I've ever played, I've still only played a tiny portion of the VII remake, soo... ofc I'll have to get to playing that.
