"I'm actually a little offended. " lmao
I'll remove it my dear, but like DD said mathcore gigs fronted by a lady?
Idk, I'll take suggestions!

gigs fronted by a lady
Maybe not focus on the "front" of the band. Sound similarities are more akin to some nu metal acts of the 90s (life of agony, coal chamber). Even the rock style of Halestorm idk comes to mind.

Glad you dig it too, dewi. Note sure why papa raviolli hates this, but ig everything has their vices and virtues.
Just noticed this little dig.
a) nice work on the ref
b) I really didn't expect to see this with a plus 2.5 review so the vices and virtues comment really works
c) I didn't 0.5 this. Hate might be a strong word.

I mean, the nu metal thing is a little off putting imo. Not my thing. I totally get not liking them

For all the praise her harsh vocals get, her tone reminds me too much of Randy Blythe who I hate. And her clean melodies are just not catchy enough to carry a song.

Not picking up on this. Any specific moments or all over?

Life of Agony, I don't see it, Coal Chamber hmm maybe? But I don't think nu-metal did blast beats, at least not before Slipknot I believe. For sure, there's a nu-metal element here, good point Noct, but somehow in accordance to the times (djenting, math, whatevs).
The Randy Blythe comparison is... interesting. I'll admit they still have to write a proper chorus, but at the same time, they don't have to.

I mostly hate over the top catchy or forced choruses, so I'm fine with Jinjer.

Never heard Otep before but checking now and yeah, you may have a point there Wolfe.

It’s not 1:1 but something about the way she sounds reminds me of him. I realize this is kind of a thorny thing to say but I feel like once you get over the novelty of those harsh vocals coming from her, they aren’t actually that good.

This is more like prog/alternative groove metal. With time they have more and more personnality in their music, to the point where it's difficult to catalog them.
This album takes a lot to digest but in the end it's pure class from start to finish.
They can put 15 riffs in a song and/or transit from jazzy to hardcore moments and still make it sound very cohesive.

"those harsh vocals coming from her, they aren’t actually that good. "
They are! She has quite a wide range and a cool texture on those fry screams or whatever is the technical term for it. On top of that I like the way she contributes to the crazy beats the band is pulling off, adding an extra beat to them.
And let me add! She also sounds pretty good live!

Tati is gud and this album too, but damn, they were really overhyped. I mean, it really boils down to "DAMN; THAT GRRL CAN SCREAM!" - and that's true! -, but she isn't the first and apart from that the music isn't that special. Fuck these viral reaction videos lol
|
| |
I had never checked that Pisces video until yesterday but I can see how it went viral. And about the music not being special, yeah, that might be true, still it's a good time and there's some pretty sick musicianship on this album too.
