hell theyre the most popular rock band for people under 35 nowadays lol. i love it

I feel this with Aja's immaculate production values would be considered a masterpiece

Idk, the production's pretty immaculate on this too. For me, it's more a matter of songwriting inconsistency... I love the jazzier cuts here, but the more straightforward rock tunes don't do quite as much for me. Still a great album nonetheless

glamour profession best steely dan song

^ easily in my top 3 for this album. I love Anthony Jackson's bass lines on that one

I think if I had to rank the songs:
1. Gaucho
2. Babylon Sisters
3. Glamour Profession
4. Third World Man
5. Hey Nineteen
6. My Rival
7. Time Out of Mind

It's still audiophile stuff but I find it more slick/trebly than before, which for Steely Dan I consider a downgrade compared to at least the three albums before this. I think just a little more body/depth would have worked wonders for the album
but this is just first world SD problems anyway

My Rival slander??? It's so good! Then again something gotta be at the bottom

Yeah, to be clear, even the bottom entries of my ranking are still really good songs, lol
I've noticed over time that My Rival has quite the following... I do enjoy it, but I just think it plods along a bit

Actually, have you seen my Steely Dan vid yet? I posted it on Youtube a few weeks ago, but I'm not sure if you were one of the people who watched it yet

The title track is absolute class.

"I've noticed over time that My Rival has quite the following... I do enjoy it, but I just think it plods along a bit"
It's probably people like me completely enamored with the coziness of that bit around 1:50 haha. But yeah I wouldn't call it top-tier either. My ranking wouldn't be too different from yours. Maybe have Third World Man higher but, hey, there are just 7 songs in total to rank. Glad to see the t/t on top, common Jeff Porcaro win
I haven't seen your video but I'll make sure to watch it soon, I've taken a look at the list now

hey nineteen is actually the lamest track on here imo

Album Rating: 4.0
well im actually not a huge fan of third world man either, thats like one of those "im gonna crawl" limp ways to end an amazing run of music. but on a lot of peoples albums that'd be the best song!

Yeah, I was debating whether or not to switch it with My Rival in my ranking, lol
