I never would've thought Halsey would put out a more interesting album than Deafheaven, but here we are.

Good to see this continued to be decisive overnight. Thanks for those words Sowing, I feel like this sort of review has been a long time coming, but there were still a few points I had to defer to others more learned judgement.

I actually really liked what Halsey did on her solo albums which have a god balance of commercial and alternative genres. She was way more commercial when she was a guest on songs which I think it is a good move. This album is solid, there are some tracks that sound a bit like NIN b sides but her vocals sound great with the dark moody music. There are a few tracks that are surprisingly good like "Darling" or "Lilith" and that don't soud like NIN at all.

Great album that deserves praise for all the parties involved.

I don't think this sounds like NiN, and I feel a lot of people are going in with this weird expectation that this will somehow just be a female-led version of that.

"That's what you get for believing the media that she was the next Tori Amos."

Lockdown probably deserves some of the credit. For example: I just discovered Kat Von D just released an album, and from the minute or so I sampled I know enough to not ever go near that thing again.

This album rules.

Halsey has been sneaky good lately but this vaulted them to the next level for me. I don't think there's a skippable track here.
