"Demon of the Fall
April 15th 2021
Can anyone confirm whether this is in fact the purest form of sonic excess there is?" (2)
just to prove I am incapable of developing alternative thoughts, I was about to ask this rather silly question... again (apparently)
I hadn't realised we'd migrated to a 'new' review thread - seems I'm a little behind here!

it depends how one gauges or evaluates "purity" but to me I'm thinking something a lot looser and unstructured would probably satisfy that criteria. Incomprehensible screeching. Free improv sax wailing like a demented elephant, random bursts of percussion like in ancient gagaku or modern avant-math shit, or simply just 'noise'. Essentially unplanned, instinctive, primal sounds.
This is very deliberate. It is definitely 'heavy', oppressively so in terms of just how one-note it can be. But can something so calculated be pure?

Agreed, the title of the album is not a fitting description of the album content.
A band like Effluence would fit the criteria significantly better.

Effluence (2) is a good shout, aye
Cranial Collapse Under the Weight of Excessive Sonic Force (in a form that isn't necessarily pure and may involve a donkey)... fixed, pretty catchy

Low key one of the hardest discogs to rank. This one is my current favorite though
