Can't wait to check this out. Wonder if it'll beat Ad Nauseam for AOTY

Less that halfway through this so far, but it absolutely rips.

The perfect antidote to spending an hour with Godspeed's latest snoozefest right before.

Damn this is impressive. Probably my favorite metal record of the year so far. Getting better by the listen. I agree with the comparison to Hath. I think I prefer this one though.

Digging this hard. Good mix of melody and technical without being over the top.

Title track definitely going to be one of my highlights for 2021. Slaps, but with restraint.

It took me way too long to give this record a complete spin, but it's really fucking great. Although I don't think it matches the quality of A Tunnel to Eden, it's a mighty worthy follow-up.

Also great writing Evok.

few tracks in and this is proving to be a pretty good time! i feel like the band's pushing the importance of divvying up rhythmic concepts for repeated riffs in a really addictive and organic way so far. they seem to use harmony and contrasting lead/rhythm segments in flourishes to accent the tails of certain riffs or enforce an atmosphere too which is both a step up from the debut, and also something that's making me think melodeath standards are unfairly biasing me towards the necessity for constantly making use of lead/rhythm interplay. excited to see what the rest will be like.

"...Alustrium’s unwavering dedication to full-throttle maximalism..."

Love this. So true. If they ever had to cut corners they'd probably do it in zero gravity with their hair on fire to the back drop of an aurora borealis. Maximalists. Undoubtedly that's their secret sauce but it may be their Achilles heal for some fans too.
