Since you're interested in Pendragon I can tell you this: Their debut is a pleasant album with two great tracks "Alaska" and "The Black Knight". "Kowtow" is clearly their weakest album. It has a great track "The Haunting". However, it suffers from a problem. It's a bit pop oriented album. Anyway it isn't bad. Their next four studio albums are all great. They represent the "classic neo-prog style", which means that they're very beautiful and melodic with a strong Genesis' vibe. The best is clearly "The Masquerade Overture", which for many their best work. After that, Pendragon changed their path. They became a more metal oriented band, a feature that became usual with many neo-prog bands. I think the best example is Galahad. Anyway, that wasn't a coincidence. The albums of both bands became to be produced by the producer and guitarist of the good British prog metal band Threshold. Somehow, it happened the same with Opeth with the production of Steven Wilson, but in the opposite direction. "Believe" is a transition album and "Pure" is clearly their best work of this phase with probably the last one.

In short, their best albums are "The Masquerade Overture" and "Pure" and probably the last one too. So, I think you can begin with these three works. After that you can go by all their works. In reality, Pendragon doesn't has really weak works. Besides, they're one of the founder bands of the neo-prog movement, probably less known than their compatriots Marillion and IQ. Still, they're equally great, in their own way.

Pendragon is a band I pushed away because of a bad experience with them. What I've heard from them seemed to be over-produced, over-polished, too clear sounding, and compositions were like forced, artificial. But I will give their best albums a spin, and see where I am from there. I have to tell you I have a bad relationship with neo-prog in general, Marillion and couple isolated albums from other bands being an exception. Thank you for your usual precisions. It's gonna be an useful starting point.

Cheers!

Yeah I can see your point. There are many people dislike neo-prog in general, which isn't my case. I don't have problems with the mellow and polished music of them. Still, I can understand that.

You're welcome, my friend.

I really like the album. It's a very interesting and a diversified work, a bit dark but also very beautiful. Thanks for showing it to me. Nice review too. So, pos.
