Call my a cynic but there's no way this is better than a 2.5

The outrage this band garnered is some of the most overblown in the entirety of modern music.

good review not gonna listen

Nah there was only a small amount of genuine outrage
but a massive amount of "huh wtf who cares"
|

Rockarollacola I think you might be underestimating how many overblown controversies there are in modern music

Too much cheese. Also, the songs here made me want to check Foxy Shazam again.

The Vintage Caravan > Greta Van Fleet. I don't understand the hype for this band and how they are the saviours of Rock. There is so much better and more innovative stuff out there.

Pretty sure Wolfmother was more successful at a 70's rock style than GVF is...AND THATS SAYING SOMETHING.
|
| |
What is going on in here then?

The outrage was warranted tbh.

Their debut is definitely bad.
This second effort is excellent from a technical standpoint, cheesiness notwithstanding. I just enjoy it for how well the songs are put together, the quality of the guitar work especially. The fact that they clearly recognized what sucked about their first album and actively improved upon it (less deliberate structually, better attempts at memorable songwriting, lush and mysterious atmospheres) is also endearing to me. Most of these nostalgia rock bands have a one track mind but this proves that GVF aren't as rigid as I initially suspected.
I have Wolfmother's S/T at a 4 too. I think this is that same ballpark regardless of the transparent influences of both.

Alright Sowing I'll give it a listen soon but man I gotta know, does the singer ever try to not sound like Robert Plant inflections and all?

These guys are so prevalent, that I saw their From the Fires EP being sold at a gas station in Bulgaria.

First 5 songs (from which 4 are singles) are top notch. 2nd half of the album is quite boring and uninspiring, especially last (and longest) song which i hoped would be a banger, is just neverending story

@Figure: I actually got a lot of Rush vibes from this. It's definitely still Led Zeppelin worship to an extent, but not as much as before.
@Alex: Dang, I love the last song. The build up is great and the solo is pretty epic IMO. I also really like Stardust Chords and Light My Love, both of which fall in the middle/back of the album.

Great review sow. I’m super apprehensive about checking this though haha

Thanks! I think it all depends on your tolerance for nostalgia rock. If you could enjoy Wolfmother, then you can like this too. If you view all that shit as inherently unlikable, then you'll feel the same about this.

The musicianship is solid, actually enjoyed this more than I expected but it's far too long.

Sowing why did you delete your comment saying that Get Born and Wolfmother s/t are actually good cool albums? in between Kompys first two comments?

It felt like I was just repeating what I said in my review and I didn't think anyone would notice
