"I think I'm losing my mind, I couldn't figure out why this suddenly sounded like the Cure. It took me virtually the whole song to figure it out."
Same here, I kept thinking I've heard that lyric "waiting for the deathblow", but only at the end I realized it was a cover.

It's kind of weird listening to Bottle of Rum, it's like Liz Harris floated into the song in a magical bubble of her own aesthetic

Thanks for that, stuff like this really bothers me, I'm for real developing an irrational fear that I'm losing my faculties

yeah skimming this review and wow porc this is inspiring. makes me want to do reviews for music again. one of these days i'll spill out with like 10 album reviews and they'll be so good sputnik will have no choice but to make me staff. ahh, that'll be the day (plus im a disabled firstgen russian-jewish queer trans butch dyke artist and game developer so u gotta get me in on the affirmation action factor)
super excited to check this album out. great writeup

So excited to see where the consensus on this thing winds up. Heard it since it leaked a month ago to start putting thoughts together and spent weeks trying to convince myself it wasn’t a 5 but the truth wins out

ah having a good amount of time pondering the album no doubt influenced how great this review is. no doubt some of the best reviews are ones u have an adequate time to chew on the songs from the record (ESPECIALLY if it's a 5)

A page in my notebook just has “panicdotes” written a bunch of different times from when I discog’d them in a park on mushies. Is this what it is to be a writer?
Thank you much for the kind words!

I wasn't going to bother with this because I wasn't big on the last record (which was my first Xiu Xiu), but it's hard to ignore that rating.
Typo in the first sentence but otherwise this is a truly outstanding review.

It really is worlds different from what Basket of Fruit sounds like, hoping people who heard that one first with all the discourse around and didn’t get on don’t skip this for that reason, cheers Sow! Thanks for the heads up

Also missing a pronoun in "Jamie and Angela have engaged with trauma, stared at unflinchingly for what it is" but otherwise yes yes yes hot damn, beautiful powerful work, wonderful job through and through. You have inspired me to go to sleep and stop writing words and definitely listen to this

Woah a 5! Nice review Porc.
Ascertaining whether I would like this before listening is no easy task, (so guess I’ll just listen to it). I didn’t care for the last one but love some of their works - Knife Play / The Air Force / Angel Guts being the stand outs.

Sad Mezcalita, holy shit. This feels like a natural progression of the more hopeless tracks on Forget. Or perhaps Normal Love (still my favourite track on GWBOF)
