Fucking worth the wait God damn.
"Hell is empty, and no-one snares stray devils quite like Nick Cave."
That's a fuck-me-up intro of purpose if ever I saw one, Pen Daddy. Whole thing might be some of my favorite writing of yours and that's a consideration by no means starved for contenders

For anyone interested, I made a comprehensive Nick Cave playlist on Spotify that covers his studio discog with The Birthday Party, Bad Seeds, and Grinderman in chronological order. I did NOT include the film scores he did with Ellis (sorry) and didn't include songs that featured Cave on vocals (i.e. Current 93's "All the Pretty Little Horses"). Unfortunately, Spotify doesn't feature all the songs and b-sides they've released, but I included all the ones that were available.

Enjoyed this on first listen. Don't want to read your review until I've gathered my own thoughts, but I'll return in time and look forward to it.

This gets better as it goes along, last few tracks are excellent. Interesting that it's labeled as being just Cave and Ellis. Doesn't seem like that big a difference from Skeleton Tree or Ghosteen, as those they were also primarily those two. I guess this is the direction they've been going in for a while.

Incredible review Johnny, I echo the general sentiment, it might be your best.
Hoping to get on this tonight to bury the week with alcohol and Cave crooning.

Insanely good review. Will come back to it when I get more familiar with the album, but I'm loving it on my first couple listens.

This part of White Elephant legit sends a shiver up my spine every time:
I’m a statue lying on my side, in the sun
With the memory of an elephant
Evaporating before your eyes
Becoming a great grey cloud of wrath
Roaring my salt upon the earth
Then it launches into the choir/chorus...perfection.
