You did it again NoTrap. Awesome review. I just listened to the album in its entirety. It’s an Evergrey album. Not much deviation from their previous works. It’s their formula and it works every time. My favorite moments on the album are the slower, piano-paced songs. Very emotional. I will listen again. I also have a soft spot for them because of that sad moment when all their gear was stolen. Just awful.

Thanks Mr. teamster ;)
Englund's passionate vocals are indeed suitable for "slower, piano-paced songs". As far as I am concerned, I prefer their powerful/epic side, present in songs like Leaden Saints or Solitude Within.

@Myth: you might not enjoy this all that much if you didn't really dig Hymns. I'd rec checking Where August Mourns, Dandelion, Absence of Sun at the very least though

Hell ye Omair that one is fuckin nice. I might be thinking of someone else, but there's an all white one too that looked really sweet.
As for the floor, hopefully he's not a goof and put some foam underneath the body protect the neck

@Omair Thanks dude, although it's been so long since Hymns that my taste has expanded a bit. I think I'm going head first into Phoenix, and see what that brings.

Eh, a very solid album but not feelin it as much as the last two. Still closer to 4.0 than 3.5.

Feels a little long, but a good mix of prog and alt metal on this one. Guitar leads are tasty as usual

@bloc I think the white Caparison was probably Michael Romeo's
Yeah it's longer than it needs to be, plus Rikard and Jonas barely take any risks here on keys and drums. I guess this is what happens to bands that are in a constant 2 year album cycle
I wish they'd change the producer. He almost completely flattens the dynamics. It boggles my mind that professional producers are happy compressing an album to oblivion

I don't like much power metal and prog metal nowadays, but I feel like prog/power is still a great genre, mixes the best of both worlds while ususally minimizing the wank and cheese.

Pop/Eurovision metal that's worth listening to.
Englund can sing the contents of a phone book in a time where good clean metal singing is almost extinct.

Yup, jamming this daily atm and it gets better with every listen for me. Englund's voice only gets better with age it seems. In the Absence of Sun is ffing fantastic.

"... in a time where good clean metal singing is almost extinct."
Very true. Englund is a great singer.

It's kind of disgusting how consistently competent Evergrey has been through the years. Every record is a pleasure to listen to. This is no exception; lovely stuff.
