@Con, I thought apple music just messed up the genre. not like they haven't done that before
but nah, it's country and it's laughably bad. someone could prolly have fun reviewing it

seeing how I only like 3 of their songs and despise country im not sure i wanna torture myself for "fun"
|
| |
Not even a slight chance that I will ever check that out but this album has 4-5 hard jams.

lol, I most mostly just curious if it was actually country
I used to not care for country either, but it's really good when you know who to listen to outside of the mainstream stuff (and it's not Lit)
|
| |
so it's lit when it's not Lit?

I always kind of wondered if these guys did any other good songs besides My Own Worst Enemy but not enough to actually listen to one of their albums.

It's basically the only song of that nature on this album

But it may be worth checking. You might like it ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Hmm...
So, it's one of those albums that its lead single doesn't sound like anything else on it? I feel like that was pretty typical of the time. Not always a bad thing, tho.

Yeah most of this is kind of just plain alt rock. My own worst enemy would lead you to believe it's a pop punk album but it's really not
|
| |
Well, I never really thought of My Own Worst Enemy as pop punk, but my idea of pop punk doesn't always cross paths with others though.
I always figured these guys were that post grunge/hard rock/rock pop vibe that a lot of bands were doing in the mid-late 90s, at least based off the single.
Kind of skimming thru the album now and the only thing that kind of has a pop/punk vibe to me so far is No Big Thing.

Oh, I have heard Zip Lock before. I think I thought it was a Sugar Ray song, ha ha.

You had to remind me of sugar ray's existence. Thanks

Man I LOVED this album when I was 15. Something tells me I wouldn’t anymore.
Speaking of Sugar Ray, I wait tables at a restaurant in LA and Mark McGrath comes in quite a bit. Very cool, chill and funny guy. Waited on him last week in fact, came in with his two kids. Tipped me 30 on 50.

| |
Glad to be of service, Source!
Actually, yeah, McGrath always seemed like a nice guy in interviews and on the random shit he hosted for Mtv or Vh1 (or whatever station it was that doesn't really show music anymore) for a while some years back.
Sugar Ray, on the other hand, not so great. Even before they went straight pop, they still weren't very good.

You make me cum
You make me complete
You make me completely miserable

The only good tracks on this are the singles.
The band sounds like they want to be writing pop-punk bangers, but would rather cash in on the radio rock glitz and glam.

Nah this was a great album for its time. Definitely a one “album” wonder though because they never released anything decent again.
