first three songs are pretty solid, but that one-two punch of Drown with Me and Erase Me is painfully weak.

How disapointing this is. I hadnt expected a great deal as the direction they are heading in was pretty clear. All the atomosphere they had in early records is out of the window. Sean sounds good yea, but we have known since 2014 that the guy has some of the best vocal chops in this style of metalcore. But that doesnt matter if they lost their identity that made them stand out (symphonic elements and nailing a sense of atmosphere, and loose concept albums). Falling ashes is one of the better tracks here. Booka is there i guess, with weird the sort of dreamy vocals that just dont fit.
My Summary: MTS is having an identity crisis, with a case of (better written) Amity afflcition lyrics. Please send them the medicine

Worlds Apart is one of my favorite metalcore albums ever. The band’s unique ethereal melodies drove that whole album, the riffs danced their way around to support it, and the breakdowns felt earned and offered contrast.
This is painfully dull by comparison. The choruses are trying too hard to be accessible and the riffs got watered down. The breakdowns feel like simple chug-fests. Some great moments, for sure. But it feels like they’re following trends rather than carving their own unique path on this one, and they’re out of their element.

^ Last sentence hits the nail on the head. This particular breed of riffing is very trendy right now and they failed to elevate it at all.
I'll be happy when the junz phase of this genre has played out and bands move on to something else.

I'm actually enjoying the accessible choruses and hating these weak breakdowns. They're just not heavy enough to go hard. Apart from the first three songs, really liked this.

this is slowly starting to wear off on me, I'm hoping their next album will be a revival of their sound, but I'll stick with their three previous albums in the meantime

I do applaud them for trying something new with each album, but this time it just didn't work as well as it could've and that's a shame

Had to give this a 2.5 as well

This sounds like the awkward in-between album that would make sense coming after Old Souls and before Worlds Apart, the latter sounding like a well-executed balance between the elevated clean vocals of this album and the groove-heavy metalcore of the former. Instead this album is caught oscillating between the two styles I thought they did a better job merging on Worlds Apart.
Some bangers on here but it's very incoherent.

I do enjoy this album quite a bit, but the flaws are something you instantly notice through early listens... luckily the top songs on this album pull it though.

Yeah, idk, these choruses are infections. Not sure why so many people are hating on them. Album is really good and definitely feels like Make Them Suffer. This band seems to have the Born of Osiris Effect (TM), where they have one insanely good album early on that they can never live up to in future releases. While this is not their best work, it's still a very good album. Not sure what MrGlass is talking about with following trends, this just feels like an evolution of Worlds Apart, not hearing what trends they are supposedly following.
