Not sure yet if it's better than volition but I think it might be. I don't dislike any songs here whereas animal bones is one of their weakest.

I was never able to get into their style back when Fortress dropped. I'm interested in this though, so I'm going to give them another go.

the chan vendetta against Animal Bones still makes me sad :[

your argument about post-Arif pth strengthening the band is interesting and a good read. entirely agree with your points, but it makes me wonder how much their early stuff might have actively benefitted from that awkward/charming mismatch between vocal style and idiosyncratic subject matter (just trying to imagine Wretch or A Plateful of Our Dead with cohesive lyrics is a weird thought lol). definitely more hyped to check this now!!

Oh man a review that starts with a bash on Arif

Well yeah, the lyrics on Scurrilous kinda sucked for most bits, but there's a reason Kezia and Fortress are that iconic

Fortress is my fave but I just listened to Volition for the first time and thought it was pretty good. Plato's Tripartate is a fucking stunner. looking forward to hearing this

Gardenias is fantastic. Not a fan of the opener.

Listened through twice this morning. I am loving the cohesive theme. The orchestration throughout the record somehow manages to make this album feel a bit more massive and self-important which I didn't think was possible. Big fan.

Little Snakes forced me to start googling and learning. The story telling throughout this album is spectacular, but there specifically.

This was unbelievable timely for them.

I think the concept would have been even better without adding a presentist perspective/criticism to it. Just write about history and that's it.

@dante1991 It was released early digitally for people who had it pre-ordered through Protest The Hero's label. It should be available today June 18th on band camp, iTunes and google play as they advanced the release from the original date(June 19th) because of Juneteenth, an American holiday.

i could see this being anywhere between my 2nd and least favorite by them. the only certainty I have is that I prefer Volition. but if every song grows on me like The Canary did then shit...

Shocked that this turned out to be so great. A more subdued sound all around actually suits them. Haven’t been this impressed with them since Fortress.
