The most recent EP before this was their best work

Steak absolutely ruined the album cover for me with that soundoff lol.
Album is decent, but I miss the in-your-face aggression and sheer urgency of songs like Apnea and Tremors from the debut.
Last two tracks are the standouts for me.

Wish this didn't have that gross guitar tone

Poverty of Self is a banger. I wish more of this was heavier.

That gross guitar tone is what signals its heviness

I think the tone is fine. Lacking personality maybe but I think it sounds big and works as a good backdrop for everything else going on.

Djent is just awful to me no matter the context

Ahhh. Bummer. That shit is everrrrywhere atm. I do strongly prefer the more melodeath-eque riffs that this genre used to see a fair amount of, but as long as they play something more interesting over the top of it I don't mind the djent stuff.

We know, treb, we know. It's okay. I'll love my polyrhythmic wanking even if it's got some grossness to it, but you certainly don't have to.

Complete bangsmith

Yeah that's the problem for me too. Relies a little to much on the cleans and there aren't as many stand out heavy moments. It'll probably grow a little bit, but I'm pretty firmly in the camp that The Place I Feel Safest is much better.

I saw someone say somewhere that if this were their debut then it would be just as warmly accepted, if not more, which I believe is just untrue. Some people may chalk it up to being a bit softer and not having as many heavy moments but to me it’s just not as engaging as a whole. I have no problem with a softer sound (I think Kill The Ache is the best song here after Better Days) but I just don’t think that’s quite their specialty yet. Definitely room to improve though

Album has been growing on me after repeated listens.
Brian's clean vocals have come a long way since the debut.

He's an awesome vocalist. I've said this before, but he may be my fave active metal vocalist atm

if this had a bit more melody instead of juns, would probably fare a lot better
the base concepts are excellent
