Had a really hard time getting into this, there just doesn't seem to be much to grab onto musically. The beats sound every bit as polished and dull as I've come to expect from RTJ. Nothing really struck me as memorable. I mean I only had one listen and even then I missed out on a couple tracks so I'll give it another go when I can listen to it in full without distractions.

this is wonderful prose (as always chan!) but honestly the angle on this review feels a little off to me, kind of like a poetic examination of not protesting. you seem really tuned into the issues & themes here and i would've loved a more head-on examination of them!

but this is clearly a personal work and i am absolutely not tryna tell you how to write your own feelings : )

review is a bit 🌽

one of my fav things about your approach to reviewing is questioning what a review can or can’t be, so I guess in that sense I can admire this approach too

but what has me raising an eyebrow is how this simultaneously comes off as self-aggrandizing banner-waving mixed with admitted apathy. it’s both honest and entirely unnecessary.

could have just been a modest review and maybe links to resources for people who want to be involved to find ways to be involved, if physical activism isn’t a viable option

I have similar feelings about this review as johnny. There is no way to express my sentiments towards this nicely and I understand that this was well intended so I'm just gonna smash that back button right on out of here.

I liked the review's concept a lot. It plants itself in the moment which is essential. A simple description of the music with a few links at the end would be a disservice to the importance of the album in the context surrounding its release. It's one thing to dislike the way the concept was executed or say it could have been done to a fuller extent (as Romulus implied), but I definitely wouldn't say it's unnecessary. I'd actually argue the opposite. I can't imagine trying to review an album like this and not attempting to relate it to current events and personal introspection.
