Lol Idk man, this is just about the most bland and samey sounding album I can think of from the past decade. Venice Bitch is cool. I certainly don't hate this but it sounds pretty unspectacular all over, just not as exciting as her past works, no matter how good the lyrics might be.

I tried!

The Greatest especially is such a w.e track. Feeks like a leftover b-side. It does have some good lyrics tho

No worries. The Greatest is possibly my favorite song here so I don't even know where to begin, lol. I guess I just love LDR, and combined with Antonoff's production, she finally reached her full potential.

what are y'alls faves on here

'venice bitch' towers above the rest for me (that song is so perfect), but i do enjoy the first two songs, 'the greatest' and the chorus of 'american record' a lot as well

Venice Bitch and The Greatest are consistently my favorites, but Mariners Apartment Complex, Happiness is a Butterfly, and Hope is a Dangerous Thing can all become my favorite on any given day depending on my mood.

I appreciate reading a review of this record (and maybe the benefit of some hindsight helps) that actually engages with it on its own terms. I like it, but I thought a lot of the writing about it when it was first released did a lot of projection and tried to canonize her as this super self aware politically resonant voice of a generation that really just didn't square with the rest of her discography. Obviously the things she's said after the fact and how she's been criticized for them are her own fault, but I thought the media kind of set her up to fail with how a lot of the reviews framed her.

Thanks! Yeah, I agree that this album is somewhat "accidentally political" in that it manufactures all the right vibes to become a platform for revolution - but it isn't anything political in and of itself.

Dude, people who rate this under average are making a political statement

pretty much the only person not making a political statement over this is lana herself - her luxury

I loved the review and its overall style, but I think you are basing it only on a certain part of the album's tracklist, completely discarding the rest; and also you are approaching your analysis strictly from the lyrical side of said part of the tracklist.

So, basically, you actually based your review and score on 1/4 th of the album.

Maaaybe an extra paragraph would have been perfect.

"Mariners Apartment Complex" and "Venice Bitch" are god-tier songs for me

"and that orange glow with billowing smoke on the horizon doesn’t look promising"

is that supposed to refer to a nuclear explosion?

Unfortunately sowing doesn't take interpretation requests, so I still think 'you color me blue' means that Trump made her vote democrat.
