Old Crap into BNB is the best one-two punch on the album for me

Well written review, but the idea that "this is not the album of an anxious or insecure individual" strikes me as a statement that basically ignores the lyrical content of the whole back half of the record. "Beauty of Breathing" as the most obvious example.

i might, but i'm def gonna give it a rewrite. repeated listens have changed my opinion each time but this could wind up being my favorite thing like, ever, i just don't entirely know what to make of it but whatever it is, it is either the most exhausting thrill ride ever, or the greatest thing in this vein of music ever. maybe both. yeah, i'm gonna bump this lmfao.

@notkanyewest that's true, but I don't think it's something he's completely caught up in now. I think the light approach to the record musically is really themeatically significant. You can still feel nervous and get caught up in self-doubt at times, and that may never change, but in Beauty of Breathing there's a way out and people to confide in and I think his assurance and confidence in that comes out in the music. That's how I interpret it anyway.

There's so much to unpack about the record, I'm surprised you managed to pull together such a well written, largely comprehensive and succinct write up so quickly. Pos. The main take away I had from this was that it was Jeff through and through, and you nailed that. There are very few artists that could get away with some of the lyricism here, and even fewer that could make it work as well as he does.
Ian bb pls do write things

Thank you, Asleep! I really only brushed the surface and noted some of the major themes that stood out to me. I'm already about nine listens in.

I enjoy what I've been hearing off of this, but I'm not sure exactly how much just yet. It's definitely a step-up from POST in my book and feels more like a proper successor to WORRY.

I never heard post but for sure this feels like it picks up where Worry left off. It's a bit more bedraggled/sloppy/angry/dark though, even if it is (somehow) also very upbeat.

Happy-go-lucky sound used to disguise underlying insecurity. The classic contradiction.

This definitely has twice the energy that POST has. And honestly better production too. I love how it starts so explosively and then barely ever lets up. We’ve got some solid old school Jeff shit going on here and I am allll about it

this record kinda reminds me of that one Mikey Erg record Jeff produced

Nice review. Great album. I got the bright, summer vibes from a lot of the tracks too, but I also agree with whoever commented about it being dark. Lyrics hit me on the 3rd spin, and there's definitely a contrast between bright melodies and dark lyrics. I think whatever he's projecting on this album goes a bit deeper than his usual drunken self-loathing.
Worry is probably my favorite pop punk album of the last decade or longer, and time will tell if this holds up as well, but I think it's in the same tier even if it doesn't surpass it. State Line and Old Crap are my initial favorites.

Yeah the passion and intensity of his voice in the State Line chorus gets me every time. Dude is somehow still in his prime musically. Still going as hard as he did 15 years ago

@asleep "bedraggled/sloppy/angry/dark" this is pulled directly from -Post. That is the missing link between this and worry.
