Gave this my first run-through earlier. What a wild record. Excessively artsy but I think I find its ambition endearing. Some cool sounds within. Looking forward to returning to this.

Yeah. It took me probably 5 listens to get it to 4.5 (from probably a confused 3.5 when I started) and I can imagine I'll be 5ing it next year. It is a gift that keeps on giving, at least for my tastes.

I just can't get past the letdown of disc two

Been listening to this a lot. Haven't noticed a discernible drop in quality in disc 2. But this is dense stuff and I'm still getting my bearings on it.

I guess I made my case prior, but yeah, I find Part 2 brought the first part alive for me. I personally spend a lot of time while working with this record and I'm always stunned when it's over--feels like such a long album goes by SO QUICK.

maybe if I hadn't got to spend so much time with disc 1 beforehand, but usually these kinds of releases don't let me down as much

Part 2 is better. I also agree with Waior that 1 didn't click for me until I had 2 to contextualise it

Hmmmmm, perhaps I was too cursory

Any reason why it made it click?

I'm not fully sure. it could just be I needed to take a break and come back to Part 1 with some fresh ears. but idk, something about that part struck me as a bit emotionally cold, or at least distant? and 2 is so open and inviting that it immediately made me connect to this in a different way (Two Dogs is still the most emotional song I've heard all year, and it really made me understand what he's going for here I think)

i wish this had just been a 10-12 track album. the length and variety really makes the flaws stick out, like how he has a tendency to sometimes oversing and some songs' instrumentals dont really go anywhere. however i do think he is an artist with a great vision and a lot of potential, and there are still a lot of gems on here.

The second half where he completely stays into the upper register is sublime

Wow! The rating average is shocking and disappointing. I've been listening to this for the first time over the past week, a half-dozen times all the way through. Absolutely love this album and it just keeps growing on me.
