Thanks for the kindness guys.
I'm surprised that the reception for Eskapist on the whole is so divisive then. I do understand that is is perhaps not as mathy and overt as Agnosie, but it still packs a hefty punch in that department, with "Lifnej" being among their best songs. In fact, the opening trio of that record alone is a top Hirsch moment. The way "Xenophotopia" evolves and just the beautiful soundscape of "Natans" are wonderful.

Agreed on the opening trio. I always thought that a song like Xenophotopia just shouldn't be as groovy as it actually is.

Good review but totally disagree with the rating.. this blows everything this band released before out of the fucking water - and their past albums were already really solid
Album has some many nice surprises - like the black metal section in Allmende (and a few seconds in Domstol), death/doom metal section in Kollaps, Kris is like modern Leprous without being boring and still being heavy in places which are in my opinion the problems with last Leprous albums, etc..
Chaotic, heavy, melodic, catchy, complex, fun... in short just a great album

I wouldn't say it blows them out of the water. It's a little weaker actually imo, but it's an excellent album still.

and I don't even think it's necessarily "weaker". It's different. actually reminds me of dog fashion disco in a lot of ways.

Definitely different, yea. This doesn't try to be a big monolith like the four previous albums were

This doesn't even touch Anamnesis, which I find to be their weakest excluding this. And even then it's a solid 4. Feel like you gotta reach to find doom metal in here to be honest my man.

I really don't understand what direction they wanted to go with this. It's so. . . .weird, some songs are just cacophonic. It's like they took all that was good and subbed it with jank avantgardeish core wankery

This is a lot more linear as opposed to wank-esque for me. But I will agree that I'm not sure of the direction that was being aimed for here. Only on scarce occasions is a mood attempted at, and those attempts are not very good.

Maybe it's me as a native speaker, but I feel a lot of mood most of the time. Maybe negative reception is due to disappointed expectations? I still love this very much, even though I have to agree it's slightly less focused than the album before it. It's the kind of album that looks more left and right and not having a strong general direction. But it's clear they wanted to write some straighter songs here.

this is pretty cool, but not NEARLY as cool as eskapist

Eskapist is just so much more innovative and clever with its songwriting. Kollaps can't measure up to that at all.

definitely. still enjoy this quite a bit

I think this was my disappointment of the year, I find it terrible. Well Enter shikari was worse but I wouldn't call that a disappointment rather a confirmation that they do awful music

This just feels like such a letdown from everything in their discog. Not what I was expecting at all. I s'pose it's linear and heavy enough to be enjoyable, but it plays it so safe and sounds so sterile to me.

I have to absolutly disagree with most of the two posts above me lol
Page Break!
Yea, Enter Shikari do rule, agreed. And this album is really good as well
