Can certainly vouch for Warning Sign as a personal favorite but in terms of hard hitting feelers Sparks (and really most of Parachutes) takes it for me.

spies / trouble / politik / god put a smile / clocks / amsterdam / what if / white shadows / magic / midnight
those are the other tunes i'm down to clown with as true coldplay jamz

"trouble" probably my fav. although I also love the parachutes title track lol

i like this review sowing! i think i find this album to be more uplifting and affirming than you do, but agree that it's the very stellar depictions of the depression & strife & grays that make it more powerful (building a ~life in technicolor~ via comparison to the much more monochrome moments)

Thanks Romulus! Certain aspects of this are definitely uplifting and that's why it consistently draws me in, but there's an equally dismal undercurrent that really shows in the lyrics and provides depth. By contrast, Mylo Xyloto is all histrionic positivity and, while I still enjoy it, it doesn't move me in the slightest.

great song picks waior. a rush of blood to the head, clocks, violet hill and midnight would probably my top tier coldplay picks

I feel like I enjoy all the uncool Coldplay picks lol. Like, where's the love for Shiver and Ink?

argument can be made for all songs viva la vida and prior i think
that's why music is cool
don't think i actively would avoid any song on these albums
edit: obviously argument could be made for post-VLV songs too, don't want to shut anybody down for liking something. i just can't personally make a big argument for 'em

Post VLV is very hit or miss. I don't care what anyone says, Princess of China is a jam. So is Hymn for the Weekend. Most of Ghost Stories is underrated as well (Midnight is transcendent). But then you have Sky Full of Stars, and 99% of AHFOD. Those are yucky.

yeah GS works for me pretty well
cannot abide with sky full of stars but others seem to like it

Ghost Stories is like an updated take on Parachutes which is why I like it so much.

i'm not a big fan of ghost stories. it has a few great songs, but overall it's pretty underwhelming to me

I felt that way about it at first too but then the whole thing became relatable

I also sort of like that it's the only understated piece in their modern discography. Everything else is so neon and plastic.
