Wow this must be pretty damn awful then

Album Rating: 2.0
Their vocal and guitar phrasing are like the biggest 2.5 out of all 2.5s there'll ever be.

Drums rule but can anyone else hear the spring-like cymbal he is hitting in the right channel (sounds like a china but it's like clashing with other frequencies)? It's really grating for me :/

This is pretty damn consistent, but the highs are not as high as TSATS (Beyond Obilv, Sever the Hand, Revanchist, Thrown).
Shogun still no. 1. The combination of thrash/metalcore without as many radio choruses still hits the spot best for me.

Album Rating: 4.0
I mean all their albums are a mix between thrash and metalcore, Shogun has some prog elements and influences added to the mix though
But I agree that the album doesn't have a single high point like the second half Sever the Hand is from the previous album, but at the same time it doesn't have as a low point as Endless Night was previously or half of the song The Heart From Your Hate
This new album basically doesn't have a song that I would skip.. the worst ones are Bleed Into Me and Scattering The Ashes but as far as "radio" songs go, they aren't in any way bad and in fact are ones of the best "radio" songs from Trivium

"Yeah right, what is actually up with the average at the moment?"
Same thing happened with the last album lol... Trivium is the ultimate lurker-core band

Same people complaining about the high average are the ones that complained about TSATS for being too high.

@mischo agreed. I think the thrash angle was stronger back then though.
I agree that the weaker songs are better here than the weakest on sin though. Need more listens to see though.
Sometimes I feel trivium could be a lot more but their aim to appease the mainstream holds them back

Defiant and Arc are faves

Lurker-core, I can dig it.
On a serious note, maybe Trivium have matured and are more respected in general, or it's no longer cool to hate them. That or the predominant voters these days are fans.

I've just never gotten around to listening to Trivium before, is this a decent place to start? It's piqued my interest especially with how much time I have lying around now.
