I'm not, this ain't poppy : ). But they were the only tracks that stood out as being mildly interesting.

Given Rina's track record I'm skeptical that she has a cohesive 4.5 album in her but at the very least I hope there are a fistful of tracks as good as comme des garcons and tunnel vision

And also have no doubt that - for better or worse - this is a braver and more adventurous album than that dua lipa alb

Could have done without Bad Friend and Chosen Family, but aside from that, this is very good

Cheers guys! Bad Friend is a mid-key highlight for me ngl, though I think it loses a little steam after that cracker of a first chorus.
@Pots I wouldn't defend this over cohesion tbh, mainly because it doesn't make that an objective. all about that sweet disparity+diversity of styles

chosen family is "fireworks" playing in Madagascar 3 bad lol.

There's a good side to having a very varied album, tho.

definitely well worth the effort given how it reads

My favs: XS, Comme des garçons (Like the Boys), Akasaka Sad, and Tokyo Love Hotel

Everything else except the two I mentioned is pretty much 4/5 so hence my rating, but maybe repeated listens I'll bump this up

I like the Chosen Fam message, but...

Those favs are tasty picks. Not vibing Garçons quite as much as some (still solid), but the other three are defo top tier for me

Well diversity can still be cohesive depending on how an album is assembled. You can conceptualize a spectrum of styles to make them work together dynamically. I think she has enough character for that. I meant cohesive more in terms if quality consistency

Ah ok - so cohesive à la Miss Anthropocene? I'd say this has that if so. As for quality, gonna leave that to you ;]

One of the biggest problems I have with pop albums is that "everything and the kitchen sink" attitude, it always comes across a bit disingenuine, you know there is pressure to throw everything at the wall and see what sticks because pop is so commercial. But there is a certain level of integrity in making an album like youd write a book. I value the artistry of a complete vision rather than a handful of pages torn out of a scrap book.

Yeah, I feel this; was one of my main gripes with Charli (although I've been weirdly missing that album lately hmm). I think most of these style changes correspond well to the songwriting for reasons outlined in the rev. Chosen Family obvs misses the ball, and I'm a little on the fence about Who's Gonna Save U Now as a climate change anthem but that one's bridge goes so hard I'm not too phased. STFU is what it is, but otherwise I'd say the decisions taken here are on point

Cherry would have been a much better fit, though I feel the guitar line in XS warranted some form of follow-up elsewhere on the album
