I'm very touched with your testimony about this album, Portland. I never thought that someone had such deep feelings about this album. And I'm even more amazed that this album has been one of your best companions , if not the best, through your life. I'm really impresssed, indeed. But, on the other hand, and somehow, I can see why. In my youth, many years ago, when I was a teenager, I had a love problem with a girl. The possible relationship failed and, at this time, I felt that the world it was no longer meaningful to me. But, fortunatelly, there was an album, and as strange as it seems, I'm talking about "Pawn Hearts" of Van Der Graaf Generator, an album very agressive and very insane, that helped me to overcome that episode in my life. So, I can completelly understand your feelings. And I really also think that this is one of the most beautiful things that we can have in music, in general, whatever its genre.
About Marillion in Hogarth's era, I completelly agree with you. I can like of many things made in this era, but nothing can be compared with Marillion in Fish's era. So, I invite you to read my next review. I intend to publish it in next Monday. It's all about Fish and is also about "Misplaced Childhood", too. I think it can be a great complement to you.
Again, thanks for sharing your most deepest feelings about this album with us. Cheers.

This album has a bigger impact on me than the other Marillion albums. While I've never been a real singer, I used to practice Fish's voice, and i've seen myself practicing it more for Misplaced Childhood than the other Fish era albums. I had more appeal for this album. It sounds lighter, more optimistic than the other albums which are darker and filled with tortured themes.
i've seen Marillion opening for Rush in 1985. They played the entire album save a song. My eyes just focused on the charismatic Fish with his acrobatic jumps and top shape vocals.
Nice review, my friend. I had fun revisiting and singing that album again lately!

Ah, what a dream. If only such a concert were possible today. Fish is touring quite close to home for me, but I'm not familiar with his solo work and I've heard he's been terrible live for a while. Can't attest to that myself though.

Yesss what a night it was, Nag!...I remember Rush was also great, but I remember more well Marillion since they played almost everything out of Misplaced Childhood with class.
I'm not familiar with Fish solo neither. I've only heard A Kettle Of Fish 88-98 couple of times. It was good but not great. I remember both songs ''Brother 52'' and ''Credo'' being great among others. His last album A Feast Of Consequences has great ideas, but it's a bunch of straight forward rock, folk ballad songs with reduced, restrained vocals with not much energy in it (In places he tries too much to imitate Peter Gabriel' late music/vocals) Not much prog to be found either. I wonder why I gave it a 4. Will give another spin. A Feast was a nominee for the last Friday13th' prog tourney.

Nice to know that you have a singer vein, Jethro. I never thought that. I know your passion about drums, but I've always been very far from dreaming that. And if you don't have a great voice, don't worry. There are some professionals that also doesn't have. Lol.
But, I envy you very much. To see a concert like that, in those times, must have been a dream. Unfortunatelly I never saw both bands live. But what is even worse, is that I will never be able to do so.
Thanks bro.

@e21...It's not surprising that I have a passion for drums; I've played the instrument for so many years...I didn't tell you? I did some backing vocals too, so I covered my two passions.
''And if you don't have a great voice, don't worry. There are some professionals that also doesn't have. Lol.'' True, lol...I was really satisfied with my voice until I got a throat surgery in 2014.
Yeah I was lucky to see Marillion with Fish, and Rush in Power Windows times...What a musical experience!...I've seen Rush two other times in about the same period. Amazing moments!...

Actually, I think you never told me that you have played drums. Still, I've noticed your preference and knowledge about that instrument, due to some your comments. But, I'm absolutely aware that I never dream that you sang in the past and was one of your passions. Great. It's really a true surprise. And i'm very sorry that surgery was another problem to your health too.
