Damn good record ngl. This is what gore should’ve been

I'm excited to listen as I've always liked Deftones' 'sound' more than their actual execution of said sound and songwriting chops.
Although I previewed a couple of tracks and the dude's clean vocals are pretty much just a carbon copy of Chino's.

is gud album

I listened to it today and enjoyed it while it was on but I don't remember much of it, gonna need to listen again
what I will say though is that it's not a very cohesive album, it's got some songs that are just deftones songs basically and some songs that are mostly generic metalcore stuff (well executed for sure, mind you, but generic nonetheless). I wish they would focus on the deftones-ish side of their sound more cause it's certainly superior to the other sound and/or mix the two sounds together better
they might execute the metalcore songs fine but they should just ditch doing straight up songs like that because they're nowhere near as good

also the first 45 seconds of Heavy is the Head... is basically straight up black metal and it fucking rules. such a shame they then ruin that by going into more metalcore stuff
I definitely think their next album is gonna absolutely killer though based on what's here
their Deftones-ish material is certainly better than Gore
also none of this is very experimental, it's more just a mix of already well established sounds

"devoid of absolutely ANY personality" well one of them is surely Chino's personality...that's much...don't know what yet...Two-Way Mirror is yummm

ahah ok...not a big fan of the shooting parts...but oh well...everyone is doing them now...such as Norma Jean's...whats with the shooting riffs? honestly

Some mistakes here and there in this review. This one really stuck out:
"Loathe are not the first band that’s music"
*whose music

In the running for best album I’ve heard in a while. Can’t stop playing it all the way through.

Damn, just woke up to the feature. Fixed the 'that's' in the review. Realistically, could have taken longer to write this one, but I was satisfied with what I had.
Anyway, DDD, Deftones is one of my top 3 bands of all time. I merely wanted to point out that Loathe managed to pull off that sound with more than just a little success - all the while, combining it with their own style simultaneously. To me, that's not an easy task.

Like some other have suggested, the metalcore-only tracks are skip-worthy to me. The other stuff is very good.

True...and for me that's one strong point, never a band seemed so close to Deftones like this I think, in its greatness...my only issue (just seeing if it passes) is this modern djenty "riffing" that is going on with these bands. Fell really bad on me with latest Norma Jean...Periphery pulled it off on those first tracks but yeah...If I get through this I sense an immediate bump on it....

Idk what y'all are talking about saying the heavier tracks are mediocre here, shit slaps. I also prefer the more shoegaze oriented tracks, but no doubt the riffs on this sound absolutely massive.

The heavier tracks ARE mediocre tho. Just a bunch of shitty aimless noisy riffs with Emmure-esque vocals.

These guys are at their best when they're sprinkling heaviness into their Deftones worship. Aggressive Evolution is the perfect example of this.
