--90s prog in 2020. . . ok

Some of the bits in the singles are musically cool, but I've outgrown this genre to death. This is imho just for fans of the band and hardly deserving a 4.5 --

All of that based off of two singles. I always find it interesting when someone feels the need to announce how they've 'outgrown' a genre, before shitting on it. The genre is still the same even if you feel the need to disregard it based on supposed 'growth'.

Right. Also, 90s prog is still the same prog being played by a lot of bands with maybe a little more djent or extreme influences thanks to Meshuggah and Opeth.

Great review, I have to get this asap. I warmly welcome a PW album after all these years they crawled in the shadows. I prefer such comebacks than 10 albums of Dream Theater within a decade, if you know what I mean. Mosquitos are bleeding still, what a social grace!

Yeah that's the problem, it's the same stuff I would have listened to in the 90s - hence the outgrowing part. Good for fans of PW that they came back, I don't really care since I've never been that much into their stuff and I find it suited to 'fans' of PW, and that's it. 4.5 is a fucking ballistic "objective" rating for a memory lane disc

Have I shitted on your review - despite, hey, saying that ". If you’ve heard one of the pre-release songs (“Devils and Angels” and “All the Bad Men”), you already have a pretty good idea of what to expect. " - and then judging me for having decided after listening to the two singles that I don't think this is 4.5 worthy material?

Did I give this a 1.5 as most users on this website when they want to be annoying to people enjoying this? no, so get off your high horse.

Your post was the typical elitist bullshit post. Start by announcing how you've outgrown said genre, then shit on said genre and current band being discussed, all because you've moved on to some obscure shit so this genre you've outgrown is now outdated, unoriginal... whatever, some sort of short-sighted critique. Good for you for growing out of it. You're a fucking musical pioneer.

You don't really care, but here you are making stupid-ass comments about a band you admit to barely even paying attention to even when you were still in your musical infanacy, and the not elite trendsetter you obviously are today.

I never said you shit on my review, I said you shit on the genre. If you want to dispute ratings based on two songs, that's your deal. I mean, you are the pinnacle of music-listening incarnate.

I wasn't on any high horse. I've just noticed a trend (as I pointed out) where people who 'outgrow' music as they delve into more underground stuff, always make sure to announce said "outgrowing" before talking shit about a genre they used to like before realizing the error of their ways.

Man, what you're stating here is monolithic af. Yes, they came back. Yes, it's good for the fans of the band. Yes, you didn't care then so you don't care now, completely respectable. BUT. Do anyone has to apologise because they write a review regarding their thoughts, their opinions AND their effort to make more people actually care about the album? And what about the applause claiming opinion of not 1,5 the album? You haven't listen to it man, chill out.

In all honesty, Lunatic isn't generally this confrontational. Maybe his team didn't make it to the Superbowl.

Tried their old albums a couple of times in the past but they did very little to me. Saw them live and was not really impressed either. These two singles sound promising though, so will give it another go for sure.

I'm really only a big fan of this one, Bleeding, and Mosquito. The production and vocals kind of put me off the first two.

I always thought the vocals were at their most compelling on the first two.

They're mixed a little high and their pitch is a little nassally and high for my tastes. I'm the same guy that doesn't like Ray Alder's high vocals on No Exit.

I mean, the word "outgrown" here necessarily involves a value judgement regarding the genre and those who appreciate it, and using it suggests that you regard yourself / your tastes as better than or above the genre and those who appreciate it - so it's no wonder the phrase ruffles feathers. Rephrasing as "it's no longer my bag" or "I've moved onto different things" removes the objective value judgement and probably would have avoided pissing anyone off. Then again, if you're suggesting that the review should be attempting to be objective or anything more than the writer's subjective views on the record then that's a whole other thing and might thing explain why you'd use the phrase.

This rating. You have me excited. The leads in the second single were just killer and the sort of banging working I expect from these guys. I always wanted to get more Darkstar and it feels like Psychotic Waltz is just going to take on that sound.

There is definitely some Darkstar in this album, but I didn't bother to mention it since the comparison would be lost on virtually everybody.
