Nightfall is awesome. Will definitely have to check the rest of the album out then I will give you my full verdict Nocte!

my only gripe with this band is that there isn't any lyrics beyond:
"uuwwwaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH"
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH"
"DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH"
could be a rayman raving rabbids concept album for all I know.
Yes I know it's a common dsbm trope to wail without lyrics but usually its covered up with different tones, mouth shapes, production, but here it's so clean and well pronounced.
Doesn't help that he doesn't vary it up much and stays quite monotone, practically could have recorded 3-5 screams and copy pasted it in every album.

Ok, gonna give this a shot now.

crucial distinction between this and Adore: this isn't absolutely terrible

yeah the atmo stuff is cool, can't see this sticking for the long run, but it's pretty.

"crucial distinction between this and Adore: this isn't absolutely terrible"
How was Adore terrible and this not? I still enjoy Adore every now and then but I'm finding that this is already starting to wear off at third listen. The lack of vocals/lyrics and the fact that the last three songs are basically tacked on ambient pieces make me love this less than I want to.
|
| |
Why the hate for Adore? That record was fairly excellent, especially as far as Blackgaze goes.

Numenorean are trash

Eh, they're competent enough and I could see Blackgazer's digging their sound. I also don't really get the hype for this guy but I found the first track on this to be more interesting than other stuff I've heard from him. This has more DSBM flavor to me than something like Numenorean which sounds almost -core at times. Really not my favorite type of BM at all, except Woods of Desolation cause they actually pull it off right.

Also can't see the Deafheaven comparisons at all.

How has no one brought up the end of Wasteland. There's a beatswitch. what

Whoever wrote this review needs to listen to Alcest and Lantlos and realize that Deafheaven were just copycat plagiarists. Sunbather is one of the most unoriginal and boring blackgaze albums out there. It didn't send shockwaves through shit, Alcest did, Deafheaven just ripped them off. It just brought in a bunch of hipsters that never even bothered diving at all into metal and just listened to Deafheaven.

"This one actually warrants it tho, this is Sunbathercore"
Dunno what this means. Sunbather was a bland, unoriginal album. Mostly Alcest / Lantlos / Neige worship with some touches of Woe's Quietly, Undramatically. Sunbather doesn't have a unique sound.

I'm impressed. Every word of what you just said is wrong. The sonic correlations between Alcest/Lantlos & DFHVN are certainly there, but their versions of blackgaze/post-black are on completely different ends of the spectrum. And to say Sunbather didn't send shockwaves.... were you alive in 2013? Or did you start listening to music yesterday? I refuse to believe it's anything other than those two options.
