not really anything bad with the review, but you say "Anthony Phillips was forced to leave the band", and it seems like he was thrown out, rather than leaving on his own

Maybe you're right. It's maybe a linguistic expression. But, despite he left the band by his own wii, in reality, he was forced by his health problems. So, somehow he was forced to leave the band, against his wishes, I think.

the Phillips solo output is a little hard to get through IMO too subdued

It's true, wham. But "The Geese And The Ghost", "Wise After The Event", "Sides" and "1984" are four pretty accessible albums and are all nice albums.

I'm still holding back on old-school Genesis. I liked Selling England by the Pound and The Lamb but dare I say, the albums before that just sound a little too... typical of progressive music in overall, like you listen to them and you go "Yup, that sure is 70s progressive rock". I listened to Foxtrot and out of it, I only liked Get 'Em Out by Friday, Horizons and Supper's Ready. So I'm a little hesitant in further going back through their discography.

Then again I thought And Then They Were Three was excellent so maybe I'm the weird one.

Good review.

Yeah, you're right. "Nursery Cryme" and "Foxtrot" sound very much to 70's prog rock. Both albums are close in style. That isn't strange, since Genesis is one of the founders of that movement. For me, that is a nice thing. Both are great and some of my fav works of them. I love the entire "Foxtrot" and on "Nursery Cryme" I especially love "The Musical Box", "The Return Of The Giant Hogweed" and "The Fountain Of Salmacis".

But "Trespass", is a very different album. It's less complex, more naive, acoustic and savage then the other two. It's a unique album in their catalogue, a transition album as "And Then They Were Three". I think it has a very special charme. I think you must check it, giving it a try, at least as a curiosity.

I really don't believe that you're a weird guy because you like of "And Then They Were Three". If you're weird, I'm weird too. I also like very much of it. If you take a look to my ratings, you'll see that I gave to it a 4.0.

Thanks for the comment. I appreciated.

Finally had the time to give proper listens to this. Wow, this definitely sounds unlike about every other album they made, and I mean that in a good way. I really enjoy the more serene and pastoral feeling of the album (the opening part of Looking For Someone sounds like Talk Talk's more ambient output, only done almost 20 years earlier!). I've always had a knack for music that conveys mood over virtuosity and complexity and this pushes all the right buttons for me.

Definitely would recommend too now.

Psych, I remembered of one thing. I don't know if you have already checked the debut solo album of Anthony Phillips, "The Geese And The Ghost". The album is of that time. It was started in 1969 but only was finished in 1976 and released in 1977. It's very acoustic and has a pastoral mood even further. Besides, it has the collaboration of Phil Collins on vocals and Mike Rutherford in several instuments. The latter even wrote some parts.

If you don't know the album I think you must do that. Before check the album, you can read the review published by me three years ago, to know better what I'm saying.

Tell me something after.

Tbh, geese and the ghost is too drawn out, but the shorter songs, especially which way the wind blows, are great

Never heard of that album, then again I didn't really know about Anthony Phillips before I listened to Trespass.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll check that out now.
