This is my favorite album of theirs, and I definitely remember it being difficult to get through at first. Took me some time to power through and appreciate it despite the rough production. This is definitely more effortlessly enjoyable front to back than I remember the album being.

This sounds SO much better. Does anyone know if this is a pure remaster, or did they include entirely new (or previously unused) takes for the vocals? Some spots on Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids, but that might just be due to how much more clear they are, haha.

hey, that's a good question! I didn't see it in the review, but it's the kind of information that probably should have been included.
Relatively speaking, this is way more than just a remaster. They completely remixed everything, very apparently using different plugins on the different tracks, and then proceeded to master that remix. I don't believe any new vox were added, but most if not all the keyboards were rerecorded. The original keys were added during the mastering of the original, and were not included in the original mix, so they needed to be rerecorded for this release.

Amazing remaster! Glad Dany and co. finaly got what they wanted, it's quite rare you see a band being so disapointed with a record production/mastering job.

Yeah, the original had one of the worst productions ever for a professionally recorded album. Seriously many home recordings sounded better than that. And I second Willie on this: the clicking drum sound was the ridiculous cream of the crap here.
Interestingly enough we find bad productions soemwhat akin to this ones on many post-breakthrough albums of late 90 metal bands. On many of these bands the way cheaper produced breakthrough albums sounded so much better than their expensive successors. While this one was the pinnacle of ridiculously bad sound, other examples coming to my mind:
Hammerfall (Glory to the Brave vs. Legacy of Kings)
Children of Bodom (Something Wild vs. Hatebreeder)
Therion (Theli vs. Vovin)
Gstes of Ishtar (A Bloodred Path vs. At Dusk and Forever)
And I am sure there were more! Fuck late 90s thing guitar-plastic clicking drum sound productions!!

y'know I always shit on this cause hawks
but I put this on and it's actually kinda dope

I don't think it was one of those albums doomed by bad production or mixing, although this remixing adds interesting things thus expanding the experience. Barker is a hell of a drummer anyway.
