Hi Lichtbringer,

firstly, thanks for bringing a well-mannered argument to the forums. I disagree with your statements:

-He’s a total virtuoso and there’s a musicality and versatility on display here that’s basically unparalleled in extreme metal.-

-so calling this showy wankery seems plain unfair.-

Sure, the guy's got a playing talent - but almost none of it is translating to a song-writing ability. There's no point dropping textbook techniques willy-nilly in a "look at me" fashion. Catchy ideas or no it's simply just not executed/used here (i want to say effectively, but we're miles off that).

To say that this is unparalleled is honestly laughable. Hosts of tech-death artists have done better than this (even narrowing the range down to this year alone).

-If you’re a fan of Tech-Death craziness give this a spin.-

Make sure you give the new Chaos Motion a go in a couple of weeks. That's actual tech-death craziness without the self-indulgence here.

Yeah the guy is certainly an excellent guitarist, but so is literally every other guy in the genre. And I get why that the talent display makes this more infuriating. There are some excellent ideas and sections of songs on here that just go nowhere and are forgotten forever. I actually enjoyed some of the songs but most of them had no development whatsoever.

Yeah, kinda like what Between the Buried and Me and the rest of the progcore crew do

BTBAM does fall into the same trap from time to time, but they're far better at transitioning ideas than this. Part of the that might be because this seems like (and I'm just conjecturing here) a solo project with no one telling this guy that not all of his ideas are any good.

Find it funny having read this - am about to try and write out an instrumental noise rock song with chiptune elements and I feel a lot more pressure to nail the songwriting after seeing this get savaged (in a wry way, not a bad way!)

Just remember, even if it's bad SOMEONE will like it.

Good review but giving this less than a 2.5 is kinda asinine. Clearly you're not exposed to enough shitty new releases.

It's probably easier to argue that if you're rating this higher than a 2 you haven't heard enough good albums this year.

You’ve taken the word “unparalleled” way out of context.

You're gonna have to lay it out for me then, I've only taken which that was in front of me.
