Talk about bias. Just listen to it and see if you like it, and if you don't, then you don't. You don't have to listen to everything in relation to what people claim about it. In my own opinion, they are the right amount of technical for it to not hinder anything, weird time signatures and all always serve the groove. I don't think many people claim they are the most technical in the world, but that's not the point and it has never been the point.

This is the best review for this album on this site and describes the band very accurately. Tool have always been a 3,5 - 4 band in my book. Not very bad but not extraordinary either. The amount of pretention i get from some of their songs can be overwhelming some times.

album is a 3.3 - 3.4 for me, but this is the most accurate review yet. however, chocolate chip trip is just a lot of fun (something most of the album is devoid of) so I really enjoy it.
