There are subtle shifts in the fidelity that are really pretty cool if you catch them. Part of what you hear is obviously limitations of a small independent project but part of it feels very purposeful.

This is damn near perfect

This is quite nice, but I'm sceptical of artists of this kind: while there's something to releasing albums for an audience of, like, ten, these emo-inspired artists that release multiple projects in the span of a few months -- of which there are a lot -- tend to do so with little... caution, that I don't think benefits the music much. I get the Car Seat Headrest comparison, but there seemed to be a bit more care put into those earlier releases -- or, if not, a kind of desparation. This seems to exist for me in some kind of uninteresting intermediate.
Again, though, that's a bit of a dumb criticism -- that spirit of throwing everything out there is something to be admired, and I understand the appeal.

I actually agree completely. I've always thought to myself - about both underground and "bigtime" artists - that rush out releases (more than two in a year) that I wish they'd take the best from each release and put out one superb album as opposed to several decent ones. I think in this case I was just impressed by the talent on display, even if the artist could stand to refine his approach. I'm excited to see what would happen in a legit studio and/or with the backing of a major label (although that part I could live without because it betrays part of the appeal here in the first place).

I was wondering what you would think of this Blush. It has an authenticity I thought you would appreciate but the product is a bit crude.

The crude production is part of its charm but I get why it would be less enjoyable as a result to some

Agreed. The talent obscured by the hazy production is what drew me in.

If I'm honest, I don't think the songwriting is too fantastic either. I think McCafferty's Sum of All Fears or Wil Wagner's Demos are good examples of artists kinda just throwing things out there without the frills or label-backing and it ending up being some of their best work. Even earliest Car Seat Headrest. Felt in those cases there was something more there, however -- in this instance, I just hear a whole lot of ambition and charm but not much by way of """substance""". (I don't like that.) That said, if other people are finding it, it's undoubtedly there, just nothing that's sticking with me.

No that makes perfect sense. I enjoys some quirks and can overlook weak stretches for those I really love. I acknowledge that there is some unfocused lazy songwriting here. Most of this floats by without too much to latch on to. It sure feels nice though.

Damn can we make this guy blow up so he can release a 5? The potential is there for sure. And so far the album on its own is aweskme!

^pretty much my exact sentiment. there's something special here just waiting to be tapped into by the right producer

@Blush I disagree, I hear substance here. Idk what it is, but I’m hooked. Listened through some of his other releases as well. I also love this album cover.

A lot of positive comments but not too many ratings. That's one thing that's in our power! ;-)

Settled on the 4. It is representative of how much I enjoy this. There is greatness in the sonic profile. Dig the experimental vocal mixing, squealing guitars and every other unexpected left turn. Gonna have to tighten the screws a bit to deliver a classic though.

This is pretty damn impressive for how small/lo-fi it all is. I can't listen to this all the way through atm, but judging from the first three tracks I'm going to really love this.

The first 3 tracks are probably the best IMO but it still retains the same atmosphere throughout.
