i actually thought this was a bit more ambitious than the altar, the issue being that she doesn't commit to it all the way through
till now and stroke are two of the best tracks bc they're slathered with distortion and weirdness but it's like she doesn't wanna dive all the way in and throws in a safe "single material" song like godless to compensate

I think this is gonna be in the 3.5 to 4 territory for me.
You could say she is on a 'downward' trend, when comparing to each album previously, but I think she is still making quality music, so I don't mind, yet.

This is a good review, but it could use some editing.

Cellophane is the song of the year, without a doubt. It's incredible

why is smorgasbord, a shit tier pitchfork word, used so much on music sites?

Might check this out. Never got into her 2nd album, first one was great tho.
|

i'll check soon. is there a Gemini Feed-esque banger on here?

"side note: this is currently her best reviewed album to date, and that is without deviant and my inflated review scores..."
yh and the last jedi was the best reviewed SW since empire, although empire famously had lukewarm reception so not even that

Why are you making a point about star wars in response to a quote that you've taken out of context

I'm not as high on Goddess as most it seems. I got into her stuff from The Altar, and although this isn't as good as that, I still enjoy it a fair bit more than Goddess.

Oh man I don’t know what to say to that. Goddess definitely won title of “sexiest album of 2014” in my books

Hold on a sec. Your review had me thinking this would be very hit-or-miss track-by-track. I think I kind of love it? It's catchy as fuck without ever veering into "embarrassed to play in the car with my wife" material. Stroke and Godless and Hawaiian Mazes and Alaska are my favorites so far but I should listen a couple more times before rating. I really like the production here too. A little heavy-handed on the low frequencies every now and then, but when it goes so low as to clip it still kind of fits? Odd because normally that infuriates me.
