I’m about halfway through my first listen and I’m already blown away. Incredibly haunting and occasionally crushing. Gonna listen through their whole discography today.

I'm thoroughly intrigued, great review. I really dug what I heard of Wang Wen so I'll spin this at work

edit: I'm like halfway through the opener and I think I'm in love

They are heavier than Wang Wen, but have that tensed atmosphere too. You should check out their albums, all are really good.

If you dig Wang Wen, listen to Zhaoze too, they are cool

Whoa. This band sounds like the coolest thing I've heard of in ages. Gotta see if this is up on Spotify.

I didn't quite like this as much as hoped, but then I got to In The Woods. Everything from then onwards is great. Maybe the other songs will grow on me.

Does Wang Wen incorporate traditional folk instrumentation too?

Wang Wen don't use traditional folk instrumentation, only horns in their music - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XFqqQ-pJQ0

Zhaoze use the guqin, which is a Chinese traditional instrument - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23JIOxty158

Been with this band since their album “A Hermitage”. Like you, I’m glad that people are getting their socks blown off by it.
