The songwriting is definitely often...different w these guys, but that might be why I love this band so much. Notes, 91 Your House, and Upwey Tecoma Belgrave serve as examples of near-perfect songwriting in the style they're going for.
Anyone here going to their upcoming Corner Hotel gig in Melbourne?? I'm so stoked

Yeah, it's definitely very messy; part of the reason they never really resonated with me, but I love the same thing in other bands so I totally understand! And ooo, I might, I saw them with Wil last year(?) and it was amazing. Also, this album is so good.

does this sound like brand new or does this sound like brand new*
*(we couldn’t think of literally any other band that would attract literal grown men who identify as sadbois in 2019)
|
| |
never really got brand new vibes from these guys though
preciate the incite blush, i see what you are saying.

Never heard of these guys before but I'm really liking what I'm hearing on this. Some of the melodies are really catchy. I'm glad they keep the twinkly guitar tones to a minimum, it's the one emo feature that grates on me.

Me & You sounds like a Yellowcard song... really digging that

check their debut, also Luck EP and their second album after that.

The Luck EP, debut and the Selfish Prick EP are all absolutely awesome. Not super heavy on the twinkly vibes either!

oh and @schoonda fair enough, that's cool as though! Do you like, direct music videos professionally??
@blushful I think I was at the same gig! Possibly the one where Wil was supporting but he pulled the entire TSSB on stage? Cos that was glorious. But 100% should see Ceres again cos it seems they might disband possibly by the sounds of it

not professionally nah, just started getting into it recently, to be honest. Just asked to shoot one of their shows late last year and they dug it and asked me if i could keep shooting and go on tours with them which is pretty exciting. Still quite a bit to learn though

Damn that sounds cool. All the best with it dude, going on tour should be absolutely sick.
Also for anyone interested in more context behind Tom, this band and this record, this piece just came out and it is phenomenal. Also explains a LOT.

cheers keza! done a few small trips and it's definitely fun but also pretty tiring haha
read that last night, great read

I think Tom's point about the impact one's music should have on their listeners is interesting even if I'm not totally sure how I feel about it myself
The light shade the author throws on Wil is a bit iffy also but eh

The whole Wil thing is pretty divisive tbh, I have mates who were diehard smithies fans and reckon Wil is a piece of shit now

I feel like it was so thoroughly blown out of proportion and treated so inappropriately that a lot of people never got the added context from Wil's follow-up statement
(not to detract the attention from Ceres onto Wil, but I gather that they're somewhat okay with him given that they talked about him in the interview)
But I do think it speaks to a huge difference in character between Tom and Wil in the way they feel towards writing about people they know.

the facebook messages were pretty bad if i'm honest, I still like SSB and Wil but it definitely changed the way I view him. Also heard Chris was kicked out rather than leaving by choice, which makes me pretty curious.
And yeah agreed man, I think Tom learnt that lesson pretty hard after Stretch Ur Skin by the sounds of it.

Yeah they were bad, I mean the context added by Wil's follow up post does help his case a little in my eyes, but yeah it was certainly not great
On another note I was just listening to Collarbone 2011 on the train and nearly burst into tears...this album just hits me in a really visceral way the more I hear it. Fuck it, I'm bumping my rating up.

Collarbone 2011 has grown on me super hard, one of the best on the record for sure

Collarbone 2011 is the best song here
