Ah, still have to listen to this but I was hoping it would be a lot better. Great review!!! I wasn't on the site whenever you were writing regularly, so it's good to see you here and now.

I appreciate the kind words, and i look forward to working with you. 2009-2011 was an odd time for the site, and an odd time for me personally, but things are much better in both areas, I think. If you need help with a feature or anything like that, I'd love to aid if I can.

I feel the same way with the last Silent Planet record as you do with this, Ponton, so I totally get it. I damn near hate that record. Going from such a strong record to something borderline atrocious is not a nice experience. And like this, a lot of it comes down to the production and songwriting.

Confused how you feel so negatively about this and so positively about the couple albums preceding it. Good review though.

This album definitely disappointed me. Lovely Little Lonely blew me away by how good it was, it sounded like mid-90s radio rock resurrected from the dead. OK sounds so overproduced and overblown that it's borderline insulting, like this band decided trying to get in on the Image Dragons act was a good career move.
There are a few good songs in here, but they're buried under cheesy Top-40 strings and weird production.

Hello, this is a nicely composed review but I disagree with you. I thihnk it is very good and not bad, but I also think lovely little lonely was better by a decent margin. So, youre move, tex

"Numb Without You" is the best song here I reckon.

Nice review though I can't say I agree with it
in my opinion LLL is easily their weakest since their debut, I find it dull, homogenous, and very safe considering the streak the band started on Pioneer, in fact I think a lot of the points you brought on your review sort of apply to that record, I'm talking about this whole band philosophy they took, bringing the focus on what the record meant and was supposed to evoke, instead on doing it on the songwriting. I also disagree on the fact that LLL is their most adventurous and experimental, hell even the b-sides from Pioneer and Forever Halloween did it better.
That being said I think I need to spend more time with this one, on my first listen, I felt some of that excitement that LLL lacked for me, even with the odd production choices and overblown vocals
I wish the band would drop these gimmicks

I was initially very disappointed and let down when I heard this record, but more and more it has grown on me and I've come to really like it. It is a departure from their previous sound, which I must say I preferred to this, but I can appreciate the evolution in this album and will grow to like it nearly as much. I would, however, never listen to this new album in a playlist with their previous albums, as the feel isn't the same at all.
I never really classed them as pop-punk, being that there wasn't much punk in their sound. But more Pop-Rock. Their last 2 albums, American Candy and LLL are both amazing and encapsulate that late 90's to early 00's mainstream sound (english girls opening riff sounds like end riff of Torn by Natalie Imbruglia, Diet Soda Society sounds like there she goes by sixpence, the bridge of Don't Come Down sounds a bit like Snow Patrol Chasing Cars, the vocal melodies in Taxi have hints of Train drops of jupiter melodies). Bad Behaviour sounds like something you would've heard all over the radio in 2001 or 2002.
To me this has a similar feel as when Blink went from EOTS and TOYPAJ to their self titled album. complete departure from previous sound, but a bit more mature, meaningful, and passionate. And I think when you treat this album as an individual, based on its own merits, and not being influenced by any preconceptions you may have of what you expect it to sound like, you can enjoy it a lot more. at least that's the realisation I had to come to.
cheers

"Broken Parts" sounds like it robbed some of its hooks from Alanis Morisette's "You Learn" (a song that has aged pretty badly IMO.) It's so blatant that I have to think it's some kind of straight-up tribute rather than The Maine trying to sneak something past You The Listener.
This band could've been huge, but they're about 20 years too late.

Every time I return to this it just gets better. I don't know, it's really fun, well-crafted pop/rock with a fantastic dose of summer energy. I like it easily as much as the previous two at this point despite my initial lukewarm reception. This might actually be my favourite record but them yet haha
