I actually really enjoyed TTS, but this blows it away. Might legit be their best album to date, no hyperbole.

What review? This is just nonsense. Admitting at the beginning of a review you didn't make it through the album is an immediate neg. Joking or not that's just stupidity to admit that in a review. It proves how much of a waste reading this was, especially since it's a poor attempt at humor.

@DanRed color me excited if that tone is explored more. Instantly went from dreading this to being mildly excited. Thanks nihilist blues

Album is not good. I started listening to them as a teenager during the CYB days so sure I’m biased but I listen to a lot of softer music too. This is just so generic. Even the few heavier moments are like a bad parody of what they used to be. The only thing it has going for it is some interesting electronic production in places. Oli is much better at screaming than singing, and some of these lyrics are really cringey. The rest of the band doesn’t even show up for half the tracks on here. I’d be easier on this if it was just an Oli and Jordan side project but this is pretty disappointing as a full band effort. I buy that some of them don’t want to make metalcore amymore, but I really don’t think that this is the kind of music they want to be making either, besides Jordan and maybe Oli. It’s a business move away from metal and now even rock. I think bands should try new things but maybe also try to balance that with doing what you’re good at and what makes full use of the bands talents. Sempiternal did a great job of incorporating electronic elements in a way that played to the bands strengths. This just throws their strengths away in favor of a Jordan and Oli mixtape.

I'd say most of the album is either like Nihilist Blues or Wonderful Life. Songs like Medicine and Mother Tongue are outliers imo, though I still really like them.

Ehh that kinda sucks imo. Wonderful life is straight 0/5 tier for me. Still gonna jam this when it officially drops.

I like this more than TTS but there's a fair share of bad songs still. But I love synths

Really? I quite like it, but I suppose it's not for everyone. My rating is gonna be so absurdly high for this it ain't even funny. I'm for real in love with this album. January has been full of god tier albums so far.

I don't prefer heavy BMTH, in fact I've enjoyed their more pop cuts, despite the fact I was massively into them back when Suicide season came out. I guess they changed at the same time as my tastes did

I dig a lot of their new material as well as the old stuff but yeah same here Sweeney my tastes have changed over time too. I really like the ambient guitar work and I'm hoping the rest of the album has more of those bits.

There Is a Hell is probably their only album I return to, some songs of Suicide Season are pretty great, but Sempiternal and Thats the Spirit are kind of yawn fests for me

I didn't like bmth till Sempiternal, though There is Hell...has some jams. I thought Sempiternal was great, enjoyed TTS, but I love this album. Caught me completely off guard how amazing this is.

okay I just checked nihilist blues, should I 5 this now? sounded almost like a Crystal Castles track, in the best possible way. I've submitted it for a news article, despite the album dropping tomorrow, because I feel the track might turn a few heads, and I feel it needs discussing on it's own. this album is going to be all over the place stylistically

Yeah man Nihilist Blues is definitely top 5 on the album. In The Dark is my current fav and S.H.I.T is moving up there too. Why You Gotta Kick Me... is also lit af.

I really love that Heavy Metal is basically a middle finger to Suicide Season era fanboys who can’t deal with them changing. Made me laugh.
