Excited to jam this and ready to be disappointed.

"on the first couple listens they just sound like Phoebe tracks without her doing lead vocals"
Ooo, interesting. Salt in the Wound sounds more Dacus to me, and Ketchum sounds like the only one they wrote together.

I'm kind of amazed they were even in the studio together to record any of this, sounds like a true email album

Ummm I'm conflicted here. There are some really good moments and some really sterile ones. I wouldn't have minded that the album finished in Salt in the Wound, cause the harmonies in Ketchum sound like they need a bit more time in the oven.
And I'll still say it, ditch the Dacus and get mah girl Tomberlin to bring some color into this... whatever this is.

Except Dacus's vocals and songwriting are excellent on this record so what are you talking about
I love Tomberlin as much as the next guy but tbh I'd prefer if she did her own thing for now

Yeah sorry, I don't like Dacus.

Tomberlin seems like she'd be right up your alley Chan I'm surprised
But yeah this is definitely missing something. Enjoyable for what it is but doesn't live up to its pedigree.

Finally listening to this and I'm mildly happy. Prob agree with this review but Stay Down is fantastic

Lingua Ignota or Diamanda Galás would be a great fit to these ladies.

I was expecting something more along the lines of Case/Lang/Veirs, where you could at least tell that they worked on the songs in the same room.

Just poking in this thread for a second to make sure everyone in this thread has listened to Many Rooms.

yeah this review is 100% accurate, gj chan. That said I'm pretty sure "Stay Down" and/or "Salt in the Wound" will make my year-end SOTY list, but Bridgers is definitely criminally underused. The trio has potential if they stick around a bit though

I think the biggest problem with Baker is that she seems to just always put out Julien Baker songs. Is everything she ever does gonna sound the same???

one thing i didn't get around to mentioning in the review is that i really don't like julien's vocals in the beginning of 'stay down'
she sounds so weak and timid. perhaps that's the point, and it doesn't last that long, but it sort of rubs me the wrong way
otherwise it is a great song.
and generally speaking, i really like this record. but critically speaking, there are definitely demerits

Yeah this is great and this is easily Dacus's best stuff (aside "Timefighter" which is probably gonna end up on my SOTY list) but she's still the weakest link imo
Will never get over the weird amount of her presence here compared to Phoebe
