checking out Statues now and it is weird how the production managed to degrade from that

This is such a good record, the production is probably the only thing that brings it down.

The singer is in a league of his own.

Production isn't that bad... it's just that the great clarity/punch/oomph of the drums and the overall instrument seperation is quite clearly inferior to Statues

Really enjoyed this, shades of Tool and Karnivool while still maintaining a sound of their own. Vocalist is by far the best feature.

Didn't really notice the production, but I've only heard Statues once so can't compare.

Tool? Yeah, the bass is similar, but Karnivool not really imo. The most obvious influences are Mastodon, (Post-)Hardcore bands (Converge, TDEP), Tool and Oceansize

If I was trying to get someone into this album, I'd call it O'Brother meets Mastodon

This is not the lyricism of a 4.0 album.

Can you believe
How we turned
Something so dark
Into so bright

Ick.

The vocalist is aces otherwise. It's a shame.

I didn't feel a draw to pay attention to the lyrics throughout this except for the intro of the penultimate song. Instrumentation and vocal delivery definitely take the focal point. Not defending those lyrics though; they're pretty bad lol
