I thought this was pretty decent. First half was quite boring, but thankfully it got more interesting after the title track. Improvement over the last album for sure.

I've wanted to like them since chaos of forms, which was about as close as I got. Some nice riffs here and there, but for whatever reason they just never clicked with me.

Agreed, no surprises or novelties here, just consistent quality Revo - minus the bursts of inspiration and creativity they still had on Deathless and Great Is Our Sin.
T/t seems to be everyone's favorite but Ex Nihilo is the one standout track imo.

As much as I love these guys and have loved their past few albums, I think they’re seriously running out of ideas. That first single they put out was terrible and I was really hoping the album wouldn’t fall under the same pitfalls, but honestly this is just really generic stuff. We’ve been teased for a year now that this is some of the “most death metal” they’ve ever sounded but in the process of doing so they created some of their most boring and hokey stuff to date. The death metal shift is really contrived and undeveloped. Admittedly this isn’t a terrible thing, but this was like listening to an entry level death metal album. Are these guys trying to sound like a heavier Death? Do they even know what kind of a band they want to be? Nothing here really blew me away except for maybe the second track. But I enjoyed it for the most part despite having such high hopes. It’s not a terrible album just really really bland for them.

I'm like halfway through this so far and tbh I'm not seeing why some people are having a problem with it. Will probably end up 3.5 or 4ing it. It's pretty sick so far.

imo Deathless is just older Revocation without the fun.

Yeah but I mean I don't really listen to bands like Revocation for crazy innovation. It's not that kind of music and that's OK. It's just awesome death/thrash.
|
| |
Yeah Revocation is something I'd file under fun meat & potatoes metal next to The Black Dahlia Murder and High on Fire. They ain't pushing the brand, they servicing the fans.

I mean people can't just watch super OG A24 horror films all day. You gotta supplement with some fun blockbusters that stick to a formula and turn your brain off. It's also ok to like them the same amount for different reasons.

These guys basically put out the same album over and over again and I'm ok with that haha. Same with Black Dahlia Murder.
