Album Rating: 3.5
You're right in all your points, e21. Good points too, Twig!... A solo album is an opportunity for the artist to go his own way, usually far from his band's framework. So in what interests us, Steve Howe enjoyed himself doing solo albums in all liberty of execution.
The great founder Yes members brought their talent and personal little chemistry to create the classic Yes lineup, but their solo career don't have to be (and cannot be) another Yes album. It has to express the own's musician's touch and personality through his own way of composition, and soundings. In conclusion, I'd say that I still have more respect to any great artist's solo - album - career. It's usually an opportunity for the artist to express what he doesn't have the chance to contribute into his band's context. It also develops his creative run. The artist soloing becomes a new experimentation, even a new band as such.
