y'all are joking right? this is leaps and bounds ahead of All Hope is Gone. That album was like a lame attempt to get more commercial radio play, but then for this they were like "fuck it" and when back to making chaotic heavy shit.

I actually really enjoyed All Hope Is Gone. Butcher’s Hook, Gehenna, Gematria, Sulfur, Dead Memories, so many good tunes. Honestly straight up has a lot of my favorite Slipknot songs. This was more of a chore to get through with just enough highlights to kind of make it worth it

"Iowa" is their magnum opus in my opinion. Their debut was great, but "Iowa" is where the Slipknot mission statement kicked in. The only thing their debut needed was direction honestly. Otherwise, their debut would have been perfect. "All Hope is Gone" isn't a bad album. Sure it's lighter and a lot softer than anything else; but for a mainstream Slipknot record, it comes across better than "Volume 3." "The Subliminal Verses" doesn't have a lot going for it aside from its singles. "All Hope is Gone" had a lot more depth than anything on "Vol. 3." I agree "The Gray Chapter" is a step in the right direction; however, there are a new set of problems to deal with. The record is far too melodramatic, aimless and dated than their previous work.

If you liked System of a Down's debut album, you'll probably enjoy Iowa. It's a very hard-hitting album that many consider to be a paradigm shift in mainstream metal. If you really like newer Slipknot albums, this will be hard to listen. It's not as melodic and surely isn't as smooth. Iowa is unrelenting chaos beginning to end. It's a perfect example of an unhinged unfiltered Slipknot at their peak.

Iowa is indeed thier best but i would say this is their 2nd and woefully underappreciated. They are firing on all cylinders here and I think its just cos people are bored of their sound that they don't give this the time of day. Mark my words the next album will get an even lesser reception no matter how hard it goes.

nahhh. there are some classics but the drums and guitars sound paper thin. Iowa is like a monstrous wall of sound taking down everything in its path. Plus Corey's Vol 3 screams were weak
