Not a bad album at all but it lacks something, I can't quite put my finger on what yet but it seems weak in some parts.

''Not a bad album at all but it lacks something, I can't quite put my finger on what yet but it seems weak in some parts.''

Not gonna lie a similar situation happened to me with 2013's ''Beyond'' during the first listening, and to a lesser extent this band's early stuff. If I recall correctly, Years in Waste is the album I dug the most off of their first four.

Listening to this album for the second time, I'm digging it far more than in the first listening. Still not sure about my rating though. Also agree with Notrap, guitar harmonies are outstanding.

So I've noticed a lot of people around the internet crying because they have to "turn the album up really loud to hear anything". I guess they would prefer brickwalled computer metal like Fallujah, but I didn't think the production on this was bad at all.

I bought it off iTunes and I have to turn it way up, but I don't understand why people have a problem with doing that.

In fact it's usually a good sign production-wise when an album has to get cranked

Band has been treading in mediocrity since The Redshift. My expectations are low. If I need mdm I will stick with Fractal Gates and Insomnium. Excellent review and thanks.

you can't just drop Insomnium into MDM conversations as if they aren't an impossible standard for other bands in the genre to be compared to

that and i don't think insomnium and OG sound as similar as people make out.
